For eight unforgettable seasons, audiences tuned in to The Real for those candid, unfiltered conversations that only this incredible group of women could bring to the table. Led by the sharp-witted Loni Love, the ever-graceful Garcelle Beauvais, and a rotating cast of unforgettable co-hosts, the show became a cultural touchstone. Why Did 'The Real' Go Off the Air?
The Real premiered back in July 2013, bringing together a powerhouse lineup of hosts, including Tamera Mowry, Jeannie Mai, Tamar Braxton, Adrienne Bailon, and the always hilarious Loni Love. From the get-go, the show was a hit, but change is inevitable. Tamar stepped away in 2016, and in 2019, comedian Amanda Seales joined the team as a guest host before becoming a permanent fixture the following year. But by the end of season 6 in June 2020, Amanda decided to move on, marking the start of a new chapter for the show.
Just a month after Amanda's departure, Tamera revealed that she too would be stepping down after seven amazing years on the show. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude to her fellow co-hosts and fans: “To my fellow hosts, I love you, I will miss you, and I will always be there for you,” the Sister, Sister star wrote. “Thank you for teaching me, supporting me, and loving all of me. Sisters forever. I’ll be rooting for you as I look forward to spending more time with my family, pursuing amazing new opportunities, and embarking on the next chapter of my life.”

Garcelle stepped in as a co-host for season 7, following Amanda and Tamera’s exits. But by April 2022, Warner Bros. and Telepictures made the tough decision to cancel The Real after its eighth season. Loni took to Instagram to break the news to her fans and share her thoughts on why the show ended. “In the end, The Real cast and crew did everything we could to scale the show down. We shot seven to eight shows in three days, no audience, turned a conference room into a studio, but in my opinion, COVID costs killed this show,” she explained.
When the series finale aired in June 2022, the hosts bid an emotional farewell. Adrienne summed it up beautifully: “We have made our mark. I was talking to my mom earlier this morning. She knows this is the farewell show. And she was just telling me, ‘you guys really did break the mold of daytime television.’ It’s so crazy when you think of it that way. There was never a show that looked like us. And I am so grateful, and I hope that we are not the last.”
Where Are the Hosts of 'The Real' Today?
Though the curtain may have fallen on The Real, the show’s incredible hosts have continued to thrive in Hollywood. Tamar, for instance, went on to win season 2 of Celebrity Big Brother in 2019. Since leaving the show, she’s kept herself busy with her own docuseries, Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!, launched the “Under Construction With Tamar Braxton” podcast, and even joined the cast of The Surreal Life.
